Tutor: Caroline Dates Available: Sunday 13th November: 9:30 - 16:30 // £80 Simple to sew this jersey dress is perfect for a novice dressmaker with no difficult fastenings to get to grips with. You can adapt the sleeve length and add patch pockets should you wish. There is also a choice of a cowl or boat neckline. Your pattern is included in the price of your course, so you can go home and make many variations of this fantastic dress. The topics we aim to cover are: Introduction to the sewing with Jersey and knit fabrics Learn how to measure yourself Cut out a commercial pattern Read a pattern Learn how alter a commercial pattern to your requirements Understand terms used Cut your fabric correctly Methods of putting your garment together Tips on which seams to use and where and how to stabilise knit fabrics Correct pressing techniques Professional finishing hints and tips The different types of needles that can be used in a sewing machine to stitch Jersey Materials needed: Fabric – 2m x 150cm wide or 2.7m x 115cm wide medium weight knit fabric with very little stretch. Interlock Knit, double knit or Ponte di Roma work well. 2 x matching thread Ribbon (30cmx6-8mm) or stay tape. All materials are available to purchase in store. We have sewing machines for you to use but if you would like to bring your own please advise us at the time of booking. Refreshments – Tea, coffee and delicious cake are included in your lesson, but please bring a pack lunch to this class.
